While there is no playground, this is a kid friendly space that’s safe for families to just be. The skate park is an awesome addition to the sunset dunes pathway. It’s legitimately cool to see toddlers learning to ride the wood undulations.
The only thing you have to watch out for is bikers, if you’re crossing the highway, otherwise, kids should be able to run along like traffic, or practice biking without fear of cars for parents. You can climb over the dunes to get access to Ocean Beach, and do some sand play - which is typically what happens with younger kids. They can’t get enough of the sand play and waves. Ocean Beach does have some rough waves, so parents should be with their kids when close to the water.
