Commodore Park feels fresh and well-designed, anchored by an impressively executed ship-shaped playground structure that carries its nautical theme all the way through — the kind of creative design that kids gravitate toward immediately. A separate climbing structure rounds things out nicely for slightly older children. Conveniently located right in front of El Portal School, making it a natural after-school destination.
Honest note for families with babies: options are slim. A single baby swing and some nearby sand — which is technically part of the volleyball court — are about all that's tailored for the youngest visitors. Toddlers would have a great time.
Picnic tables sit right in front of the playground creating a cozy, easy sightline for gatherings and parties. A baseball field and dedicated dog park round out the amenities nicely.
One practical heads up: street parking only, and it can get competitive.
